棕榈油是一种热带木本植物油，是目前世界上生产量、消费量和国际贸易量最大的植物油品种，与大豆油、菜籽油并称为“世界三大植物油”。
马来西亚是世界最大的棕榈油生产国，其棕榈油产量将近世界总产的45%，马来西亚盛产棕榈油，与马来西亚的气候也是息息相关的，马来西亚位于赤道地带，全年无明显季节变化，属热带雨林气候，也为棕榈树的生长提供了便利的条件。
棕榈油营养丰富，脂肪酸的含量比较高，性能稳定，平时不容易发生氧化，另外这种食用油的烟点特别高，特别适合制作油炸食品。
